Pottery seminars for adults
The Centre for the Study of Modern Pottery offers courses and special programs for adults as part of its learning program.
Our activities combine theory with practice to introduce participants to the ancient-old art of pottery.
They are complemented by extra events, including Sunday visits to museums and archaeological sites, pottery workshops, events at the museum’s courtyard, and themed trips.
*All events are free for our students.
Four academic years
Our pottery courses are organized into four academic years.
• In the first year, students learn the fundamentals of ceramics, including hand-building techniques, the use of the manual wheel, decoration, glazing, and the firing process.
• In the second and third years, the courses become more focused, allowing students to explore advanced techniques in building, decorating, and firing ceramics. They draw inspiration from both ancient and contemporary pottery traditions. Students are taught the use of the electric wheel, ways of preparing and applying slips, terra sigillata, creating colored and opaque glazes, and wood firing.
• In the fourth year, students collaborate in groups to explore modern and contemporary artistic movements through pottery, experimenting with various materials and techniques.
Teaching & Scientific Supervision by Nikos Liarios
The pottery courses are taught and supervised by Nikos Liaros (archaeologist and ceramist), along with ceramists Marilou Andrikou and Erianna Arvaniti.
We occasionally invite traditional potters to share their expertise and organize collaborations with scientific institutions and universities, both in Greece and abroad, to offer specialized seminars. These are instructed by renowned ceramists, visual artists, and academics
