PRESS RELEASE
Clay-Scripts: Stories from Earth and Water
Experiential Workshop in Art Therapy and Ceramics
The Day Center for Mental Health Support through Art – Thalpos Mental Health launches its memorandum of cooperation with the Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics by hosting the experiential art therapy and ceramics workshop, Clay-Scripts: Stories from Earth and Water.
The workshop utilizes ceramics and modern cultural heritage as a starting point for exploring personal and collective memory, as well as gendered representations of identity. The Centre for the Study of Modern Ceramics invites participants into the museum’s inner sanctum—opening up its storage facilities—and encourages individuals to draw upon their own personal repository of experiences to surface memories, thoughts, and emotions. The material artifacts of modern ceramics, along with the everyday enactment of their functional use, are approached as vehicles for meaning and as sites for negotiating various facets of identity.
The convergence of ceramics and visual arts enriches the expressive means available for capturing personal narratives, fostering reflection, and engaging in a dialogue with emerging facets of the self. In this way, these art forms create a transitional space—bridging the past and the present—with clay serving as a medium for exploring new ways of assigning meaning.
The goal of the workshop is to enhance creative expression, emotional awareness, and psychological resilience, while also fostering communication and social participation. The workshop is open to beneficiaries of the Day Center as well as members of the wider community, highlighting how the integration of culture and mental health services contributes to the psychosocial empowerment of the community.
