TAKIMI II – Reconnections
through the works of Olga Vlassi and Auréline Caltagirone at the Museum of Modern Ceramics
The Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics, in collaboration with the French Institute in Greece, organizes the exhibition “TAKIMI II – Reconnections through the works of Olga Vlassi and Auréline Caltagirone at the Museum of Modern Ceramics.” This exhibition presents works created by the two young ceramists during their participation in the artistic residency program of the French Institute of Greece, which was organized at the Residence of France in Rhodes in 2024, in conversation with the collections of the Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics.
Through their works, Olga and Auréline narrate their thoughts and experiences from their stay on the island, inspired by the myths and history of Rhodes ceramics. The ceramics from the museum’s collections converse with their works, reconnecting them with their source of inspiration and historical context.
“The hospitality and research program for Contemporary Ceramics in Rhodes was a very creative period for me. I was able to research the iconography, myths, and symbolism of historical objects and mainly of the ceramic works found on the island and to create new narratives in ceramic works.” Olga Vlassi
“The stay in Rhodes was a particularly rich experience through meetings with people, initiation into the local culture, and experimentation with ceramic fragments. Inspired by the historical narratives and traditions of the island, I experienced this stay as a period of exploration and experimentation with the aim of utilizing the fragments and creating works that are connected to the region and its artisanal heritage.” Auréline Caltagirone
