“Encounters & Epiphanies” Contemporary ceramics exhibition

The Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics hosts the exhibition of contemporary ceramics
“Encounters & Epiphanies” by Viviana Gormaz Vargas.
Viviana Gormaz Vargas, a senior at the Ceramics Art School Francisco Alcántara in Madrid,
attended a four-month internship program at the Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics as an
Erasmus+ scholarship holder. As part of this program, she created a series of artworks entitled
“Encounters & Epiphanies." Viviana was inspired by the collections of the Center for the Study
of Modern Ceramics, followed the traditional forms of the vessels, and created contemporary
ceramics. Viviana’s ceramics are the canvas where imaginary dialogues are depicted. Heroines
of Greek mythology meet figures of Greek history and “converse” on ceramics, composing an
idiosyncratic iconographic world.
Viviana, in her works, deals with concepts such as femininity, love, or female power, projecting
her personal thoughts and expressing unique symbolisms.
